Andy is a policy wonk in a top-heavy state government bureaucracy. He enjoys spreadsheets, data analysis and strategic planning linked to outcomes. In his spare time he drinks beer and pontificates about social decline and the pressing need for a resurgence in grass roots democracy. He often resolves to do something about it but never has any time (he knows this but continues to make resolutions anyway). Andy also enjoys writing about himself in the third person.

Ben has been writing about music for a greater proportion of his life (40.9090909091%) than anyone should have (25%). This doesn’t make him good. Or bad. Just well practiced. He’s lived in Melbourne all his life, this website coming as a parochial expression of respect for the music scene therein. When not writing about music, he’s thinking about writing about music. And movies. And books. And politics. He’s a riot.

Pat’s had a chip on his shoulder ever since his albino-geek-rock band, Fair and Square, broke up in 1996 and spawned avant-garde popsters, Dandruff in the Salad, and spaced out psy-glitch project, Blandscape. He wasn’t invited to join either. Inevitably, this lead to a self-serving interest in music writing for its own sake and a blanket distrust in anybody claiming to have invented a “new genre.” He probably hates you..

Saddle up.

If you’re not in a band yourself but have a hot tip, e-mail one of us and let us know what’s burning up.

Anti-legalese legal bit.

melbs.org is a hobby. It takes time, we care about it and we try to do our best. That “try” extends to asking permission from bands/labels/interested parties before we post an mp3. Often we link directly to mp3s on the artist’s official website, which is easy and good for everyone. Sometimes we don’t; sometimes we stick the disc in a computer, rip an mp3 and put it up on our server. Either way, we’re not attempting to swindle anyone. So, if you’re in a band with a song here for download and you take offence being represented in such a manner, send an email and we will remove the material. Or we can discuss things, like the civilised folks we are. Just remember this: you hate lawyers, I hate lawyers, we all hate lawyers.
